(F/n) and I have been hanging out for a few months and I felt extremely comfortable around her and we could tell each other anything. I couldn’t tell if she felt comfortable around me too, she was so outgoing and kind to everyone, you’d think she was friends with everyone in the entire school! But she’s been so distant and closed off lately, and she wouldn’t tell my why. I had asked her on our way home one day.


“It’s nothing, Mattie. I’m just really tired. So I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” was all she told me. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and jogged ahead of me towards her house. As I watched her shrinking form, I couldn’t help but think it was something I did.


When I got home, Alfred was asleep on the couch, a comic book covering his face. I tip-toed passed him into my room, where my polar bear cub was also sleeping, but on the floor. I walked over to him and stroked his fur. His eyes fluttered open and stared up at me.


“Who are you?” He asked. “Kuma, it’s me! Matthew remember? You’re owner?” Kuma sat up and rubbed his eyes. “Why isn’t that girl here today?” I sighed. “Her name is (F/n). And I don’t know why, I guess she has more important things to do.”


“Like what?”


“I don’t know, she won’t talk to me anymore.”


“Why?”


“Kumajirou, why do you ask so many questions?” He stopped and put a paw on his chin. “I dunno. Can you tell (F/n) to visit? I miss her.” I sighed again and took Kumajirou into my arms. “I miss her too. But don’t you think it’s a little rude to have her over if she is doing something more important?”


“Then why don’t you go visit her?”


Now that I think about it, that wasn’t such a bad idea. And now that I think about it again, it’s a terrible idea!


“Kuma, I can’t just go over unannounced! That’s so rude!” I told him.


“I think she wants you to see her. Really bad.”


“That’s ridiculous, if (F/n) wanted me to visit, she’d just ask me over like she always does.”


“She loves you ya know. Maybe she’s shy because she doesn’t know how to tell you.”


I looked Kumajirou straight in the eyes. “Don't lie to me! How do you know that?”


He stared back at me like I was the dumbest person to ever be born. “She told me. Last week when you and Alfred were playing street hockey.” He reached up and smacked my forehead as best a polar bear cub could. “Remember? She sat out that time with me.”


Now I really felt like a jerk. “Hey Kuma? Whadda ya say we go visit (F/n)?”
