I’ve become comfortably numb, until you opened up my eyes,

to what it’s like when everything’s fine.

I can’t believe...


I had fallen asleep on my desk. Nobody cared, they couldn’t see me anyways. My name is Matthew Williams, and I am an outcast. I’m often mistaken for my brother, Alfred. I’m not sure how, he’s the loud and obnoxious one. I don’t usually talk to anyone. Ever.


“Hey, hey wake up!” said a soft voice. I opened my eyes a bit and saw a (e/c) eyed girl with (h/l)(h/c) hair. She was actually really pretty, which only added to the fact that I was dreaming. No one that cute would ever talk to me. I started to close my eyes again.


“Hey! I said wake up!” the girl said again, violently shaking my shoulder. My eyes shot open and I was pulled from my dreams. Come on! Can’t a guy dream anymore? I groaned and looked over at my dream-killer and saw...the same (e/c) eyed girl? What?


“I-I’m so sorry!” I stuttered. The girl shrugged. “It’s alright. School is over, I just didn’t want you to get locked up in here.” she shivered. “Talk about torture!” I laughed at her little remark. “Hey you’re Matthew, right? Wanna hang out sometime?” she added.


I was extremely shocked. Not only did this girl see me, but she knew my name and wanted to hang out. “W-Why would you want to hang out with me?” I asked. Well that was a stupid question! The first person to know who I am, and I was already trying to blow them off!


“Because you look like you could use a friend!” she said. “Oh snap, I should probably tell you my name. It’s (F/n)(L/n).” (F/n) held out her hand, and I shook it. “So, how about it? Are you free next Saturday?”


“U-Uh yeah!” I nodded frantically. “Yes I am!”


“Cool! Meet me at the park around 3 okay?” (F/n) smiled and gave me a hug. I returned it after a couple seconds of getting over my shock. “It was nice meeting you Matthew!” she said as she walked away.


“It was nice meeting you too (F/n).” I called after her. She probably didn’t hear me, but oh well. I made a friend today.
